Lesson 8: Replacing Numbers with Letters - OpenCurriculum

Summarize your discoveries with a partner. In the equation 𝑎+ 𝑎+ 𝑎+ 𝑎= 𝑏× 𝑎, any value can be substituted for the variable 𝑎, but only 4 can be used for 𝑏, since there are exactly 4 𝑐𝑜𝑝𝑖𝑒𝑠 of 𝑎 in the equation. Finally, consider the last equation, 𝑎÷ 𝑏= 𝑎 𝑏. Is this true for all values of 𝑎 and 𝑏?
